Lawrence County Sheriff Security Center
The mission of the Lawrence County Security Center is to provide for the safe, secure, and humane housing of all inmates. It is our duty to maintain good order and discipline within the facility and to do so in the most cost-effective way for the inmates, the citizens we serve, and our fellow staff members.
We will strive to ensure that inmates leave our custody in better condition both physically and emotionally than when they arrived. However, the decision to do so is a decision that can only be made by the inmates themselves. Our work environment will encourage input, participation and a commitment to excellence.
Lawrence County Security Center
The Lawrence County Security Center opened in 1990. The facility was originally designed to hold up to 88 inmates, but has since been modified to house 168 inmates. Staff includes 23 full-time officers and maintains a part-time officer to assist in staffing requirements. All full-time officers are required to complete a one-week Jail Academy, accredited by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
Captain Travis Sanders, Jail Commander
Retiring in 2014 after serving over 20 years in the military (U.S. Coast Guard), I returned home to Lawrence County and began my employment with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. I believe that "Leadership is Action, Not Position" and expect my staff to be professional and competent in their job and always ready to respond to any situation that arises. I encourage all to take pride and ownership in their tasks throughout their respective shift and to remember that teamwork is essential in our business. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
"Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don't interfere as long as the policy you've decided upon is being carried out."
